Fast and Accurate Elemental Analyzer Keeps Sinopec Well-Oiled in China
Using the right analysis elemental analyzer along with a customized testing approach helped a leading petrochemical supplier to speed up and improve the accuracy of their element analysis processes in China.
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) is a large-scale integrated energy and chemical company with upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. They are the world’s largest oil refining, gas, and petrochemical conglomerate and are the largest supplier of refined oil products in China with an extensive marketing network for chemical products.
Challenge
Sinopec was looking for a new approach to generating complex molecules through several chemical reactions. To achieve that, they must be able to obtain fast and accurate element analysis results of the elements, such as carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen, involved during each step of the reaction process.
Using the results, they can then compare them with the projections and proceed to adjust the reaction conditions in time to ensure that each reaction is carried out in its design stage.
Approach
We commenced testing the samples using the Thermo Fisher Scientific FlashSmart elemental analyzer. Based on the modified Dumas Method, this advanced analyzer is highly flexible, offering modularity that enables over 20 configurations in one instrument. Besides expanding analytical capabilities, it features powerful software that supports automation and precise reports generation, making the system easier to use from start to finish.
To further support the solution and the people using it, we developed a customized testing method that the customer can apply in their working process.
Result
The Thermo Fisher Scientific FlashSmart elemental analyzer helped Sinopec increase flexibility, speed up workflow and improve accuracy when performing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen analyses.
While the entire analysis generation process took nearly 50 percent faster, the new solution reduced our customer’s operation cost by up to 20 percent as it uses fewer consumables and reagents.
