Mineral Exploration of New Resources
The focus of the mining industry is shifting towards potential new resources in remote areas as a result of decreasing ore grades. Remote sensing technology is an effective and widely established analytical method for geology and mineral exploration and has proven extremely beneficial by providing access to dangerous or previously inaccessible mineral deposits.
Webinar information
- Date recorded: 22 March 2017
- Language: English
- Industry: Minerals exploration
- Products: ASD TerraSpec Halo
- Technology: Near-infrared Spectroscopy (NIR)
In this webinar, you will learn:
- Roles of the mine geologist at the mine sites
- The importance of NIR as a tool to provide mineralogy information to geologists, engineers, and mine planners and examples of their use.
- How the mine geologist can efficiently classify waste, ore, and possible problematic ore in different parts of the mine
- Field validation for the metallurgical engineer during processing
- Why the TerraSpec Halo is an important instrument for the Mine Geologist/Geometallurgist
Panelist:
Stacey Leichliter holds a Master’s of Science in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Tasmania (CODES) and a BS degree in Geology and Geophysics from Missouri University of Science and Technology. She is a geometallurgist/geologist and has used near infrared instrumentation to characterize ore mineralogy at mine sites like AngloGold’s Cripple Creek facility in Colorado, USA. She performed geometallurgical research as part of AMIRA, collaborating with JKTech and CODES. Stacey has developed geometallurgical models which include mineralogy, texture, recovery, comminution, leaching, and environmental factors for different ore deposit types. She has been published on geology and geometallurgical topics. Stacey is an independent consultant, with over ten years of mining industry experience, performing research on epithermal gold and porphyry gold-copper deposits. She formed her own consulting company in 2013, focusing projects and contracts on geological and geometallurgical testwork, training and modelling.
