Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are the most common combination of analysis techniques found in simultaneous thermal analyzers (STAs). A combinatorial approach allows one instrument to collect multiple types of information simultaneously—in this case measuring a material’s response to stress by DSC along with mass changes in response to temperature and time with TGA. The two are able to work compatibly as test conditions are the same for both techniques. Simultaneous analyzers are useful for the analysis of polymers, food, nanomaterials, metals, and oil, among other materials.
