Cell Sorting

Cell Sorting
Cell sorting is a technique used in biological and medical research to separate individual cells from a heterogeneous population based on specific characteristics such as size, shape, surface markers, or protein expression. It allows researchers to isolate particular subsets of cells for further analysis or experimental use, playing a crucial role in areas like immunology, cancer research, cell line development, and the development of stem cell therapies. By studying these distinct populations, scientists can gain deeper insights into cellular behavior, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic responses.
These techniques are invaluable for obtaining pure cell populations, enabling more accurate experimental results and advancing research in fields like drug discovery, regenerative medicine, and personalized therapies.
Applications:
- Immunology
- Cancer Research
- Cell Line Development
- Stem Cells
Workflows:
- Sorting for downstream Single-Cell Sequencing
- Drug Discovery
- Immunoprofiling
Sorting with Nanocellect WOLF G2
The NanoCellect WOLF G2 is a compact, user-friendly cell sorter designed for gentle and efficient cell sorting in research laboratories. It uses microfluidic technology, minimizing cell stress and maintaining high cell viability, making it ideal for sensitive samples such as stem cells or primary cells. The WOLF G2 supports multi-parameter sorting and integrates easily with most laboratory workflows, offering both high precision and speed. Its closed, sterile system reduces contamination risks, and its portable design makes it accessible for various research settings, including small labs, expanding opportunities for high-quality cell sorting in a range of applications.
Fluorescence Microscopy
Fluorescence is the most commonly used way of tagging and identifying single molecule species. The technique uses the luminescence phenomena found in nature to stain entire cells or biomolecules with fluorophores, allowing for the fluorescence microscope to detect the signal, generating both spatial and intensity data. This data is representative of the localization and the amount of the molecules inside a cell. Colocalization and interaction studies can be performed.
Cartridge Based Fluidics
NanoCellect utilizes unique and proprietary microfluidic sorting cartridges for bulk sorting and single-cell dispensing. The cartridges employ a piezoelectric actuator and operates at less than 2 psi allows for gentle sorting that preserves viability and RNA integrity. Cartridges have a 100% disposable fluidic pathway, making it ideal for labs with many samples where cross-contamination or biohazard cleanup is an issue. The microfluidic cartridges are sterile and produce no aerosols, making it some of the safest sorting on the market. The cartridges also allow for maximum flexibility by allowing users to sort using their own buffers and media and only consume about 50 mL of sheath fluid in 1 day.
Applications Overview
The NanoCellect WOLF cell sorter is a powerful tool used for a variety of applications, including antibody discovery, single cell sorting and plating, genomics, single cell RNA sequencing, plant biology, gene editing, cell line development, and discovering microorganisms in ocean or pond water. The WOLF is designed to gently sort happy, healthy cells using a sterile cartridge-based microfluidics system. The WOLF cell sorter is ideal for tasks like cell line development and sorting plant protoplasts, as well as for monoclonal outgrowth of iPSCs and microalgae.
Sorting with Cytek Aurora CS
The Cytek Aurora CS system was built with the scientist in mind, leveraging the power of Full Spectrum Profiling technology in a flexible and easy-to-use platform that meets the diverse needs of your laboratory, while delivering the sorting functionality you would expect from a high-end sorter.
The Cytek Aurora CS system provides remarkable flexibility, enabling the use of a wide array of new fluorochrome combinations without requiring the reconfiguration of the detectors. Sharing the same optical system as the Cytek Aurora analyzer allows for the easy transfer of experiments from the analyzer to the Aurora CS system without the need to modify your panels. The state-of-the-art optics and low-noise electronics ensure high resolution and high sensitivity for identifying and isolating rare cell populations deep into the gating hierarchy.
The result is a system that delivers exceptional performance at the single-cell level which can resolve the most challenging cell populations, such as cells with high autofluorescence or low expression of key biomarkers, regardless of assay complexity. Equipped with advanced sorting features and monitoring tools, the Cytek Aurora CS system can isolate viable and functional cells for downstream studies.
