The COVID-19 pandemic has driven global pharmaceutical companies to reevaluate and transform their supply chain processes. One increasingly preferred approach is by outsourcing research and manufacturing to external service providers, to reduce costs and maximize manufacturing scalability.

In recent years, Taiwan has gained a strong reputation for its successful Contract Research Outsourcing, Contract Development and Manufacturing Outsourcing (CRO/CDMO) sector. Two of DKSH’s customers are among the leaders in the sector. They are well known for their development of medicines such as the flu vaccine, COVID vaccine, microbe development, cancer medicine, eyedrops, and protein-based medicine.

Challenge

Driven by the rising market demand from the pharmaceutical sectors, our customers were looking to expand their manufacturing capacity with an upgrade of their Temperature Control Units (TCU). The required solution had to be able to ensure stable production processes with accurate and precise temperature control.

Their previous instruments were quite loud when in operation which caused disturbance to machine operators and the manufacturing environment. The new solution should help the customers reduce equipment maintenance and repair costs.

Approach

Following a thorough analysis of their business needs, we recommended LAUDA’s Temperature Control Unit solutions to fit their required time of cooling and the company’s available budget. LAUDA’s constant temperature equipment provides high stability to make sure there is minimal or no interruption to the businesses’ manufacturing processes.

The solution can be integrated with our customer’s Single-Use Bioreactors (SUB) or mechanic mixers of many leading brands, such as Satorious, Cytiva, Merck, and Pall. We also provided comprehensive after-sales services to ensure the equipment will continue to run smoothly and avoid equipment downtime.

Result

Since the installations of these new solutions at the respective premises, our customers have recorded a substantial improvement in terms of speed, the accuracy of temperature control, and more consistent control over their manufacturing processes. They also noted the near-silent operations of the equipment during use. As a result, our customers have placed repeat orders for their other manufacturing sites.

We are extremely happy with the solutions and knowledge offered by DKSH. Their industry-leading biopharmaceutical products will greatly contribute to the CDMO industry in Taiwan.
